A New Jim Crow?: Medical Tyranny is Being Embraced by Society
Written and Narrated By Ethan Hay
To whoever reads this, I hope you won’t mind if I get a little personal, but due to everything that has transpired, it is necessary. I am a student at Utah Valley University, (1) and my university is requiring all students in the upcoming Spring semester to be vaccinated. Now, there are exemptions (2) that the university is required by Utah state law to allow. The exemptions that would be accepted are for medical, religious, or even personal reasons. While I fully intend to file for an exemption, I like so many others were furious about this requirement. So much so, that when a group of students came together to fight this mandate, I joined.
Upon joining, I took part in this group’s efforts to raise awareness about the exemptions. While doing this, we have also been promoting a petition that seeks to have the requirement rescinded all together. I mention this not to toot my own horn, but to raise a question; how long till we say enough to living in fear? How long till we awaken to the fact that as our freedoms continue to be eroded at a rapid pace, we have no one to blame but ourselves? One of the most esteemed of the Founding Fathers, Benjamin Franklin, (3) echoed this sentiment, even prophetically saying that “those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.” This is sadly the case.
This is made evidently clear in the recent statement made by the man who is occupying the role as America’s commander-in-chief. Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden III (4) has made clear that he has nothing but disdain for those who have chosen to not get the vaccine for a variety of reasons. He called the COVID-19 pandemic ‘a pandemic of the unvaccinated.’ Then he had the gall to say ‘this is not about freedom or personal choice. It’s about protecting yourself and those around you.’
But wait, there’s more. His Labor Department ‘is developing an emergency rule to require all employers with 100 or more employees, that together employ over 80 million workers, to ensure their workforces are fully vaccinated or show a negative test at least once a week.’ He is also mandating that all federal employees also get vaccinated. These are only the most tyrannical points of a six point plan (5) that he presented to the nation on September 9th.
Already, there are governors across the country who are pushing back against this dictatorial push by the former Vice President. How did he respond? He said in the original statement that ‘if these governors won’t help us beat the pandemic, I’ll use my power as President to get them out of the way.’ What does that mean? Later, upon learning that states have filed lawsuits against the mandate, he simply said ‘have at it.’ (6)
While things are bad here in America, they are still not nearly as bad as they could be. Just ask the good people of Australia. The Chief Medical Officer of the state of New South Wales, Dr. Kerry Grant, (7) was asked about identifying individuals who may have encountered the virus, popularly called contact tracing. She responded by saying they would have to see what contact tracing looks like ‘in the new world order.’ That on top of the fact that the Australian government, led by Prime Minister Scott Morrison, (8) is now requiring vaccines for anyone who wants to travel internationally. Then there is France, (9) where they are also requiring vaccine passports or some proof of a negative test in order to travel within the country.
Now while these are cases of medical tyranny outside of America, let’s look at another case within the US. Before Joe Biden presented this plan, New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio had mandated that NYC (10) residents who hadn’t taken the vaccine would not be able to go to gyms, restaurants, or entertainment venues. Yet when that occurred, there was little to no media coverage and even then, the media tries to twist it in a way that is favorable to tyranny.
While there are pockets of resistance, varying in size, and spread throughout the world, like the one at my university, we ultimately have no one to blame but ourselves for the loss of our liberties. But now as we awaken to the evil that has infected every part of public life, we must fight back. We must launch a peaceful campaign of protesting everywhere there is a vaccine requirement, we must boldly speak out and be heard. We have been silent for too long, and if we don’t stand now, there may not be a tomorrow for the sun will set on our freedoms, and the darkness of tyranny will be all that encapsulates our lives. It is time for the lions to rise, and roar.
