The Fall of General Mark Milley: is he a traitor?

Written and Narrated By Ethan Hay

Des Opresso Liber. To free the oppressed. This is the motto of the United States Army Special Forces, more commonly known as the ‘Green Berets.’ (1) The purpose of the Green Berets is to serve as an elite commando force that is deployed to train and build insurgencies in foreign countries that are hostile to America. They are meant to be guardians and warriors for freedom, not informants for tyrannies.

Why bring this up? Well, General Mark Milley, (2) the current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and chief military advisor to the President of the United States, spent much of his career in the Green Berets. Even so, there have been recent relevations in a book that was written by famed Watergate journalist, Bob Woodward, (3) and Washington Post reporter, Robert Costa,(4) that General Milley may have committed treason. The book contends that after the events of January 6th, Milley was concerned about then President Trump’s mental state. In a phone call with Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, (5) she said:

He’s crazy. You know he’s crazy. He’s been crazy for a long time. So don’t say you don’t know what his state of mind is. He’s crazy and what he did yesterday is further evidence of his craziness.”

The General responded by saying, ‘madam Speaker, I agree with you on everything.’ Before this he had compared President Trump’s attempts to challenge the 2020 election to Adolf Hitler. (6) He even thought that what happened on January 6th (7) was comparable to the Reichstag (8) fire of 1933. That fire is basically the point where the National Socialist Party (Nazi’s) was able to consolidate their political power by enacting emergency measures. The irony is that the plan for the fire was orchestrated by the Nazi’s, who had just named Adolf Hitler as Chancellor, and were the majority party.

Milley then continued with this suspicious behavior, by going behind the back of both the President and the Secretary of Defense. According to USA Today, (9) he called a ‘secret meeting with other senior military leadership’ with the intention of limiting the capability of the President to deploy nuclear missiles. He did this by saying that they weren’t allowed to take orders from anyone without him knowing about it. This flies in the face of civilian control of the military.

It gets worse. How much worse? Well, he then called his Chinese equivalent, Chief of the General Staff of the Peoples Liberation Army, and member of the Chinese Communist Party Central Military Commission, General Li Zuocheng, twice. (10) In these calls, he informed Zuocheng that if the US were to launch an attack on China, he would call to warn them. There have since been calls for Milley (11) to resign. People like President Trump have said that if these revelations are proven to be true, then he should also be brought up on charges of treason.

The American Constitution (12) outlines treason in Article III, Section 3, Clause 1, as:

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

General Milley  confirmed (13) that the calls took place, but he insists that the calls ‘were in keeping with these duties and responsibilities conveying reassurance in order to maintain strategic stability.’ This seems very much like aiding the enemy. But let’s completely ignore, that charge just for a moment. In doing so, he should be relieved for his incompetence on not just the dismal Afghanistan withdrawal, (14) and the embrace of wokeness (15) in the military. Those are bad enough already, but he should also be fired for initially supporting a drone strike in Kabul that led to the death (16) of an aid worker, his wife and seven children. But he won’t resign. Former Vice President Biden’s press Secretary, Jen Psaki, has already said that the former VP has ‘complete confidence’ (17) in General Milley.

This is the incompetence of the people who are currently occupying the halls of American power. The entire Biden Administration needs to resign for a wide variety of reasons. But this behavior from a former Green Beret, someone who is meant to be an elite warrior, is shameful. The goal of a good general is to ensure that the battle that they are fighting ends as quickly and as humanely as possible. General Mark Milley is not a good general, and he very well could be a traitor. It is time for good men and women to stand up, and demand that all people in the employ of the national government be held responsible.
